Baked Cinnamon Apples

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." — 1 Corinthians 10:31

Warm, tender apples baked with cinnamon, a touch of maple, and walnuts — a healthy, comforting dessert.

A Word for the Season

Baked apples are one of autumn's simplest pleasures — fruit transformed by warmth and spice into something that feels like dessert but nourishes like fruit. This recipe requires almost no effort and fills the kitchen with the fragrance of cinnamon.

The Scriptural Foundation

"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." — Galatians 5:22-23

The Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), cored
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ cup chopped walnuts
  • 2 tbsp raisins (optional)
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil or butter, melted
  • ½ cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place apples in a baking dish. Fill each apple with a mixture of walnuts and raisins.
  3. Drizzle with maple syrup and melted coconut oil. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
  4. Pour water into the bottom of the dish.
  5. Bake 30-35 minutes until apples are tender but still hold their shape.
  6. Serve warm, with a spoonful of the pan juices.

Nutritional Note

Apples are rich in pectin, a soluble fiber that supports gut health. Cinnamon helps regulate blood sugar, and walnuts provide anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids. This dessert is naturally sweetened, low in added sugar, and suitable for nearly every dietary approach.

A Prayer for the Journey

Lord, thank You for the fruit of the earth and the spices that make it sing. May the fruit of Your Spirit grow in me as these apples grow soft and sweet in the warmth of the oven. Amen.
