A ruby-red, naturally caffeine-free iced tea made from dried hibiscus flowers — tart, refreshing, and rich in antioxidants.
A Word for the Season
Hibiscus tea — with its stunning ruby color and tart, cranberry-like flavor — is one of the most beautiful and healthful drinks you can make at home. It requires no caffeine, no artificial coloring, and very little sweetener to shine.
The Scriptural Foundation
"Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these." — Matthew 6:28-29
The Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 cups water
- ½ cup dried hibiscus flowers (or 4 hibiscus tea bags)
- 2-3 tbsp honey or maple syrup (to taste)
- 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
- Fresh mint leaves for garnish
- Ice
Instructions
- Bring water to a boil. Remove from heat.
- Add hibiscus flowers (or tea bags) and cinnamon stick if using.
- Steep 10-15 minutes, then strain.
- Stir in honey while still warm. Let cool to room temperature.
- Serve over ice with fresh mint. Store refrigerated up to 5 days.
Nutritional Note
Hibiscus is one of the richest sources of antioxidants among beverages, and studies suggest it may help support healthy blood pressure. It is naturally caffeine-free, rich in vitamin C, and its tart flavor satisfies without the need for heavy sweetening.
A Prayer for the Journey
Lord, thank You for beauty that nourishes — for flowers that become tea and for colors that delight the eye. May I see Your glory in every petal and every cup. Amen.
