Your body was made to move. Discover how regular activity strengthens body, mind, and spirit — and how to begin where you are.
A Word for the Season
Movement is not punishment for what you ate, nor a contest to prove your worth. It is one of the most faithful ways to care for the body God gave you. We were made to move — and when we do, everything works better.
What Movement Does
Regular physical activity is one of the single most powerful things you can do for your health. It:
- Strengthens the heart and lowers blood pressure and cholesterol.
- Regulates blood sugar and dramatically reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes.
- Protects the brain, improving memory, focus, and mood.
- Reduces anxiety and depression as effectively as some medications.
- Builds strong bones and muscles, guarding against frailty as we age.
- Improves sleep, energy, and longevity.
How Much?
The general guideline is 150 minutes of moderate activity per week — about 30 minutes, five days a week. A brisk walk counts. So does gardening, dancing, swimming, cycling, or playing with your children. Add strength training twice a week to preserve muscle and bone.
Beginning Where You Are
If you are starting from stillness, begin small. A ten-minute walk each day is a beginning worth honoring. Choose activities you enjoy — you will keep doing what you love. Move a little most days, and let consistency matter more than intensity.
If you have a health condition, check with your doctor before starting something new. The goal is a lifetime of movement, not a short burst of effort.
Movement as Worship
When we move, we steward the body we have been given. We honor the One who knit us together. Let your walk, your stretch, your work in the garden be an act of gratitude.
A Prayer for the Journey
Lord, thank You for the gift of these bodies. Give us the courage to move, the grace to begin again, and the joy of feeling strength return. May we care for these temples with faithfulness. Amen.
