As the world slows and leaves fall, discover how to cultivate a deeper rhythm of abiding in Christ through the spiritual discipline of stillness.
A Word for the Season
As the landscape shifts into the muted gold and amber hues of autumn, we are invited into a season of preparation and rest. Just as the earth withdraws its energy to go deep beneath the surface, our spiritual lives are called to a similar recalibration. This is the perfect month to transition from the busyness of summer to a posture of holy intentionality, allowing the pruning work of the Spirit to prepare our hearts for a fruitful winter season of abiding.
The Scriptural Foundation
In John 15:5, Jesus reminds us that our vitality is not found in our performance, but in our connection to the Vine. When we feel the chill of the shorter days, it is easy to strive for productivity, yet scripture urges us to 'remain.' Colossians 3:3 reminds us that our 'life is hidden with Christ in God.' This season of stillness is not a suspension of purpose, but the very soil in which our faith takes its deepest root.
Coaching in Practice
To deepen your faith this month, try the practice of 'Breath Prayer.' Choose a short phrase of scripture, such as 'Abide in me,' and synchronize it with your breathing during morning quiet moments. This small shift transforms daily routine into a spiritual discipline, turning your scattered thoughts into a steady stream of prayer that keeps your heart anchored to Christ throughout the changing weather.
A Prayer for the Journey
Lord, as the days grow shorter, may my hunger for You grow deeper. Help me to surrender the urge to strive and instead learn the grace of abiding. Root me firmly in Your love, that I might carry the warmth of Your presence into every relationship and responsibility I hold. Amen.
